The dress (usually silk) vest is an indispensable accessory of the tuxedo. It can only be replaced with cummberbund belt which should reflect the color of the bow-tie.

The tuxedo vest is a dressy vest traditionally made of silk or satin. If the tuxedo is single buttoned the vest must be low-cut. Worn in colder climates, more advantageous for not-so-thin me, as emphasize the face so it has a slenderizing effect. The cumberbund - bow-tie set is recommended for younger men and it`s also a better choice in the summer or warmer climates.  
The groom must keep in mind, that the tuxedo vest and the tuxedo shirt must harmonize the bride`s dress. Otherwise it`s mainly self-coloured or jacquard.
